I just read “Why Is Social Media Not Working For You” at Socialmouths.com and was inspired to boil down Francisco’s advice into what sort of works out to be a 10 Commandments of Socialmediaism.  You will notice that I have tried to stay in line with all things good on the net by formulating them as do’s instead of don’ts.  What do you think, have we covered all the bases?

    1. Make your social media about stuff that will benefit or be interesting to your contacts, friends, and followers.
    2. Go read the social media of others in your fields of interest and weigh in with your sincere views and ideas.
    3. Have a strategy, and then let yourself loose.  Try new things, make mistakes, discover what really works…because nobody has fully worked that out yet.
    4. It’s OK to promote yourself, but only if by “yourself” you mean “how you yourself can be of real benefit to others.”
    5. Go where they like you.  Find the social networks where you feel the love. Ignore the rest.
    6. Interact with those around you frequently and with a spirit of generosity and goodwill.
    7. Provide easy ways for your visitors to share your wealth with social media buttons and links.
    8. Have a clear message and little clutter. Be direct about what you can offer your visitors and what you would like in return.
    9. Gently and patiently pull your customers with your generosity and desire for the relationship.
    10. Be polite.  Every network has its standards of behavior – know them and follow them.
